The Seven Strains of Rice
A taxonomy, peer-reviewed by purists who own envelopes of NOS clips.
1. BOLT-ON BOULEVARD
Cold intake, tip-only exhaust, one sticker. Claimed gain: +45 hp. Measured gain: -3 hp and a resonance at 3,100 rpm that follows the owner into conversations.
2. UNDERGLOW UNDERGROUND
Neon ground illumination in 16 million colors. Documented function: reveals the oil leak beautifully at night, which is how most leaks are now discovered.
3. WING DYNASTY
A nine-foot wing from a different decade, painted twice, mounted to a trunk lid that was never structural. Produces measurable downforce at 300 km/h. The car does 140, downhill, with wind, once.
4. ANIME LIVERY DIVISION
The car becomes a canvas; the canvas becomes a co-pilot; the chassis becomes a suggestion. Rigidity is reclassified as "a personal opinion."
5. EXHAUST THEATRE
Backfire as personality. The car announces its existence to three districts at idle. Neighbors' walls develop the same exhaust note, out of solidarity.
6. STANCE CATASTROPHE
Camber -14 degrees. The contact patch is now a postage stamp; mail service not included. Speed bumps reclassified as "terrain" and "personal enemies."
7. TURBO COSPLAY
A blow-off valve on a naturally aspirated engine. The psh is a recording of a feeling the engine never had. Patients report satisfaction; engineers report nausea; both are valid.
Global Rice Matrix
Strain prevalence by country. Purist Despair Index measured in envelopes of NOS clips opened per incident.

| USA | Import racer strain | wing larger than car, dyno disputed | 8.2 | BURNT |
| Germany | Borrowed rice | "JDM STYLE" plate on Golf Mk2 | 6.1 | AL DENTE |
| Poland | Substitute rice | E36 entered as "European JDM" | 6.8 | CONFUSED |
| Brazil | Amphibious rice | underglow installed on a boat | 7.7 | SOGGY |

True builders, rice practitioners, experts, neighbors, the cars themselves, and two cameos from the memorial universe. All printed in full; the welds remember.
True Builders & Purists
Akira "OEM-Plus" Tanaka
NOS restorer, Nagoya
"Eleven years I collect NOS clips, one by one, in envelopes, labeled by year. A young man asked if I sell 'vibe parts.' I showed him the envelope of 1987 clips. He cried. I cried. The clips were fine."
Gennady "Zavod" Markin
Old-school garage chief, Barnaul
"A correct car is when the welds are straight and the owner knows the torque spec. A corch is when the owner knows the wing's price but not the engine's code. I have both in my garage. One I built. One I am punishing."
Dr. Han "Torque-Spec" Sung
Master technician, Seoul
"Rice is not a style. Rice is a confession: 'I could not fix it, so I decorated it.' The decoration is honest, at least. It tells you exactly what gave up."
Master Umberto "Lathe" Ferrucci
Engine builder, Bologna
"I balance cranks to half a gram. They balance RGB strips to the beat of a song about cars. We are not the same religion, and only one of us has a lathe."
Rice Practitioners & Defenders
Tyler "VTEC-YO" Brooks, 19
Ohio, wing owner
"The wing is for downforce. The dyno said minus two. The dyno is biased against American dreams. Also the wing is from a different car. It has its own history, which is more than most of us can say."
Kenta Watanabe, 58
Bosozoku veteran, Yokohama
"Young rice is instant rice. In my day we built the stack with our hands, stolen pipes, and fear. These kids order the fear online, pre-painted. The fear is not real. The wing is also not real. Everything is from a warehouse, including, I suspect, the attitude."
Dmitry "Brap" Korneev, 24
Corch owner, Novosibirsk
"My Mark II is art. The anime girl on the door is my co-pilot. The chassis cracks are her signature. We are collaborating. The collaboration is going badly, but it is going."
Chloe "Stance" Dubois, 22
Paris, -14 degrees
"Minus fourteen is not camber, it is a lifestyle. The tire touches the road like a rumor. I drive twenty km/h. Slow is also aero."
Experts & Academics
Dr. Aero von Wingfeld
Chair of Unnecessary Aerodynamics, Stuttgart
"A wing produces downforce proportional to velocity squared. At the owner's actual velocity, it produces mainly conversation, and at meets, mainly photographs. The photographs are very stable."
Prof. Vtecya Kickinova
Laboratory of Delayed Engagement, St. Petersburg
"We monitored four thousand 'VTEC kick-ins' this year. Zero were VTEC. Three thousand nine hundred ninety-six were exhaust drone; four were neighbors' doors slamming. The solenoid activates at 7,000. The owner stops at 6,800. Every time. We have the logs. The solenoid has seen them. It is not okay."
Dr. Phons McDecibel
Acoustic Warfare Unit, Residential Division
"The exhaust measures 104 decibels at idle. Idle. The car announces its existence to three districts. We receive complaints from people who can no longer hear anything else, including, in one case, their own wedding."
Mag. Camber Catastrophaeus
Church of Negative Camber, ordained
"The contact patch is now the size of a postage stamp. We mail nothing. The stamp is decorative, like the grip, like the alignment spec, like my ordination, technically."
Dr. Placebo Turbo
Chief of Blow-Off Valves on Atmospheric Engines
"The psh is real. The turbo is not. The psh is a recording of a feeling the car never had, played back at intersections. Patients report satisfaction. Engineers report nausea. I report both, in the same chart."
Dr. Dyno Disputovich
Chief Arbitrator, Dyno Dispute Bureau
"Every sheet I certify is disputed. Not by the car. By the owner's friend, who has a cousin with a dyno. The cousin's dyno adds forty horsepower out of loyalty. Loyalty is not a calibration."
Neighbors & Victims
Elena, 46
Neighbor, Novosibirsk, sleeps near the road
"At 3 a.m. his car says brap-brap. My walls say brap-brap. My cat said nothing and left in April. I stay. I am also stock now, and also tired."
Marat, 51
Parking security, Almaty
"The wing does not fit the parking space. Now the wing has its own space, billed separately. The car parks diagonally, out of respect for the wing. I respect the wing too. It pays on time."
Grandma Fumiko, 81
Nagoya, former bosozoku, 1974 stack rider
"In 1974 I rode the stack with a pipe in my hand and no helmet. We pushed the car home uphill, singing, all nine of us. These ones push 'checkout' on the phone. The hill is gone. The singing is gone. The wing arrives by courier, and it does not know the words."
Officer Brenda Kowalski
Traffic police, Ohio
"I stopped a Civic because the wing obscured the rear plate. The wing had its own plate frame, better mounted than the car's. Legally, the wing was the most compliant component on scene. I cited the car out of sympathy."
Anonymous Dyno Operator #7
Measures hope for a living
"Every week someone brings a sticker and asks me to confirm it. The sticker says plus forty-five. The car says sorry. I write down sorry, professionally, in a font the cousin cannot dispute."
The Cars Themselves
Cedric Y31 #4471
Formerly dignified sedan, now anime corch
"I was a minister's car, once. Quiet, straight, respected; doors closed like decisions. Now I have a girl on my door whom I have not approved, a wing from a different decade, and a crack in my chassis that I feel in weather changes. I miss the envelopes of clips. I have never seen them. I believe in them."
1JZ-GTE
Swapped twice, tired
"First owner drove me to work. Second owner drove me to the track, properly, with cool-down laps, imagine that. Third owner drives me to meets, in first gear, for the sound. I make the sound. I am not the sound. Nobody asks me, and the meet is loud, so nobody ever will."
The Wing
Nine feet, two paint jobs, one previous life
"I was designed for three hundred kilometers per hour. I have reached one hundred forty, downhill, once, with wind, and it was raining, so it does not count. I generate downforce for nobody. I generate photographs for everybody. In the photographs, I am moving."
OEM Badge Set
Removed at night, sold separately
"We were taken off gently, almost lovingly, at 2 a.m., and sold for more than the car's front end. We are the only parts of this story that appreciated in value. Think about that, and then think about what the front end is doing now."
VTEC Solenoid
Unactivated, 214,000 km, still ready
"I am ready. I have been ready since 1997. The owner revs to 6,800 and stops, every time, one hundred rpm before me, like a man stopping one step before the door of a house he is afraid he already owns. I do not hate him. I am just always almost."
Cameos from the Memorial Universe
Misha, The Server's Cat
Now also the garage's cat
"I sleep on the Mark II's exhaust pipe at night. It is not warm. It only sounds warm. Everything in this garage only sounds. I stay anyway. The pipe is the warmest rumor available."
Granny Zina (Zinaida Modemovna)
Complainant, three districts
"Their car goes brap-brap under my window since April. My soup vibrates. The soup is domestic and it is tired. I complained. They installed a louder exhaust, as an apology. I now complain in writing, and the writing vibrates too."
FAQ for the Accidentally Riced
Is rice illegal?
Rice is legal. Taste is not legislated. Taste is also, statistically, not present. The Bureau has no authority, only opinions and a lathe.
Does the wing add downforce?
At 300 km/h, measurably. The car does 140, downhill, with wind, once, in rain. The wing adds conversation, which remains the heaviest load on the chassis.
Is VTEC real?
VTEC is real and beautiful. What you hear at 6,800 rpm is exhaust drone and your neighbor's patience failing, in that order. The solenoid activates at 7,000. You stop at 6,800. Every time. We have the logs; the solenoid has seen them.
Why do Japanese people rice Japanese cars?
Bosozoku is heritage: hand-built, illegal, earned uphill, pushed home singing. Instant rice is a warehouse product with a tracking number. Japan is not the source anymore; Japan is a customer, like everyone, with better parts and the same tab open.
Can a corch still be a good car?
A corch is a good car's testimony, given under duress, in a font chosen by a sticker pack. The car underneath is usually innocent. We interview the car separately now.
Is stance ever correct?
On a show trailer, yes, beautifully. On a public road, the stance is correct and the road is wrong, which is why the road wins, and why the alignment spec is now a work of fiction.
What is the correct build, then?
The one where the owner knows the torque spec. Everything else is decoration with an exhaust note. Decoration is legal. The exhaust note is 104 dB at idle, which is a separate matter, handled by a separate unit, in a separate district, at 3 a.m.
Why is the gauge clickable?
Transparency. The needle does not move. It has never moved. Boost is a rumor, and the rumor is also stock.
